Common Japanese Missionary Terms

This is a list of commonly used missionary terms that Brandon often uses, and that he might not always remember to translate in his letters.  (compliments of his father, Mark Pearce)

All vowels may be pronounced as in Latin, and the consonants as in English with the exception of "R" which perhaps best thought of as a mixture of an "L" and a soft "d" sound. Good Luck.

bulletdendo                proselyting  (said dendou - o is supposed to have a line above it) 
bulletdendobu-cho    Mission President 
bulletchoro                 Elder
bullethombu               mission home 
bulleteikaiwa             English conversation (the class he teaches) 
bulletkyodai               brother, as in Brother Tanaka (Tanaka Kyodai) 
bulletshimai               sister, as in Sister Morita (Morita Shimai) 
bulletnihonjin             a Japanese person 
bulletgaijin                 a foreigner (caucasian person) 
bulletkyokai               church 
bulletgambatte          good luck ("hang in there", "don't give up", etc.)
bullettaikai                 conference
bulletshokai                introduction
